BRIEF DESCRIPTION

Direct2 IT (Computer Technician) is a combination of three technical training steps. Each step offers a specific set of skills to enable you to enter and or enhance your career. Computer Technician is the first step in the Direct2 IT training and career program. This program provides the skills necessary for an individual to work within support roles in a variety of organisations.

WHAT ARE THE LEARNING OUTCOMES?

This program is the perfect way for those who have little or no experience with computers to establish a strong career in IT. The program provides you with skills and knowledge that comes with two internationally recognised industry certifications and a nationally recognised Certificate IV Information Technology (Support).

THIS PROGRAM IS IDEAL FOR?

People who wish to utilise their new found problem solving skills and enjoy working closely with other people. The computer technician program provides the perfect platform from which to launch your IT career.

YOU WILL NEED?

A logical mind, which is indicated by your cognitive assessment, a passion for computers and a readiness to learn. No previous knowledge of IT is required to undertake this program.

WHAT ARE THE UNITS?

1 - Introduction to Operating Systems

Install, navigate and administer Microsoft operating systems. Partition drives, configure devices and backup/restore the registry.

2 - PC Assembly and Maintenance

Build a computer from scratch and understand the operation of all its components. Install external devices and configure the ports they connect to.

3 - Desktop Support & Windows XP (Microsoft Certified)

Understand the Windows XP/Vista operating system and provide support for its users. Support and troubleshoot various applications running on Windows XP, resolve issues with network connectivity, files, folders, printers and other hardware.

4 - PC Troubleshooting and Problem Solving

Learn the best techniques to troubleshoot and repair a faulty computer. Learn to quickly identify both hardware and software faults and network related faults. Understand error messages and use the built in repair tools.

5 - Networking Fundamentals

Introduction to networking with Windows XP, in a domain and peer-to-peer environment. Learn to configure TCP/IP and other network protocols. Make your own network cables and use various methods to test that they work.

6 - SS01 Customer Service and SS02 - Personal Development

Develop communication and negotiation skills to deal with customers face to face and over the telephone. Understanding how to deal with difficult people and provide a satisfactory solution for all parties involved. Learn the latest in resume writing, preparation, dress code, office etiquette and how to approach an interview.
